Victor Hugo is one of my favourite writers. Les Mis is great, and right up there with my favourites, but it’s The Hunchback (or, in French, Notre Dame de Paris) that really made me stop and think and go back and read over. It’s timeless, and Hugo is nothing short of brilliant in his themes, and observations of the inertia of society.
